Community Resource Guide
Description: Middle school and teen adolescence is an exciting time for teachers, students and families. Research indicates that during this time students discover who they are, what they want, and how to survive. The Alignment Jackson Middle School Team desires to provide families, teachers and students with resources to support everyone through this important phase of youth growth and development. Our goal is to compile all information regarding resources and opportunities that are designed for and available to assist middle school teachers, families and students. The strategy is to create a Middle School Resource Guide that includes information regarding educational, social-emotional, and opportunities. Additionally, we will provide workshops and other opportunities that increase awareness and promote the usage of the Middle School Resource Guide.
Services Needed From the Community:
We are looking for contributors to a Middle School Resource Guide, which will help inform middle schools about the support and resources available to them in the community. We are looking for opportunities in the following areas that are well-suited to the needs of our middle school students, families, and educators.
- Academic Opportunities
- Economic Empowerment
- Social Emotional Opportunities
- Social Services
- Health and Wellness
- Arts & Culture
- “Stuff to Do” (ie. summer camps, special programs, age-appropriate events and hang-outs)
Target Population: All JPS Middle Schools (Kirksey, Northwest, Powell, Cardozo, Siwell, Blackburn, Brinkley, Rowan, Bailey, Chastain, Hardy, Peeples, Whitten) – Teachers/staff, students and their families.
What Do We Want To Do?
The primary outcomes supported by this Invitation to Participate™ (ITP™) will be to:
- Short term outcome
- Increased community program enrollment / student participation in community activities
- Mid-term outcome
- Decrease in out-of-school suspensions
- Improvement in intellectual, physical, social, and emotional needs of our students.
